Interview Bio

In the Advanced Toastmasters manual "Communicating on Television" there is a component where you need to be interviewed. This page outlines some of the topics that I believe I can speak to without any notice:

Primary Items
  • I am an Toastmaster member, currently have my Competent Communicator and Competent Leader Designations. I am currently pursuing my Advanced Communicator Bronze designation. I joined Prince George Toastmasters in December 2006 which means I'm coming into my fourth year of Toastmasters. I have served as an area governor, a club president, a past president, a vice president of education, a vice president of public relations and a treasurer. I can speak to any topic Toastmasters related (i.e. why, how, where) as well as higher-level in terms of how clubs/areas/divisions/districts are organized, what the different jobs are for and what benefit they have, what do  the different designations mean, etc.
  • I am an IT professional by trade and training. At one point or another I have filled positions from low-level data entry to service rep, network administrator, systems administrator. I have programmed in a wide variety of languages on a wide variety of platforms from when I was about 7 years old up to present time. I have purchased, supplied and maintained hardware from storefront tills, to desktop workstations, to mobile phones, to server rooms with racks of servers. I can generally make informed comments on most popular products and trends in computing.
  • I am a hobbyist photographer who sells my prints online.
  • I am a mathematician by both hobby and training. I have particular interest in abstract algebra and graph theory. I was a child prodigy in mathematics and have participated in many national math competitions and have tutored math at high school and 1st/2nd year university.
Supplementary Items (can be used to fill out an interview or for interests sake, etc.)
  • I am a dog owner and have strong opinions on obedience/training.
  • I am a newlywed as of August 2010.
  • I am expecting to have a son at some point between December 2010/January 2011.
  • I am a long-time resident of Prince George having lived here for almost literally my entire 30 years.
  • I am the son of a heroin addict father which means I have extensive second-hand experience with the treatment programs and medical establishment in BC in particular.
  • I am somewhat experienced with the mental health system in BC insofar as I spent many years being treated as a Bipolar II with Major Depression and Hypomania as well being treated for Social Phobia. Generally the discussion about how a medicated social phobic became a Toastmaster catches people's ear.
